SUBSTATION DESIGN

Electrical design is the field in which EIB has built its expertise and reputation — it is our core and the main source of our strength. We specialise in the design of substations and the electrical parts of power plants — everything between the generator and the substation — with full expertise across all levels, from conceptual to detailed/for-construction design.

EIB engineers cover:

– primary electrical design from LV up to 800 kV and beyond
– secondary electrical design
– SCADA/DCS system design
– auxiliary systems design (lighting, fire protection, telecommunications, etc.)
– civil design for substations
– architectural design for substations

We use the most advanced tools on the market, such as Autodesk Design Suites (AutoCAD 3D, Revit), Primtech 3D, Eplan, Ruplan, ETAP and others, ensuring a high level of design automation.
This approach enables fast response times, precision and fully customised solutions for every project.

EIB provides a comprehensive design approach — from conceptual design to final execution — fully aligned with international standards and investor requirements.

CONSULTANCY SERVICES

Our consultancy services include all phases of power engineering project development — from conceptual design to final implementation.
Whether it involves preparing tender documentation — where we develop a solution virtually from scratch — analysing existing concepts, or reviewing existing power systems that require reconstruction, our team provides reliable expert support.

We offer advisory services during procurement, installation and technical verification, monitoring compliance with technical requirements, laws and regulations.
Our team includes experts in primary and secondary electrical equipment, as well as civil engineers, ensuring optimal and complete solutions for every project challenge.

EIB’s consultancy approach is built on a combination of expertise, flexibility and adaptation to the specific requirements of each investor.

SYSTEM ANALYSIS

System analyses represent an important part of our design process, but we also perform them as standalone studies tailored to the specific needs of each project.
Our expert team conducts detailed electrical studies and simulations to identify potential issues, optimise solutions and increase system reliability.

These analyses include:

– grounding studies (soil resistivity measurements, analysis of results, step and touch voltage calculations, analysis of real fault currents)
– fault current and load flow simulations — for parts of the grid, substation level or isolated systems (ETAP, DIgSILENT and other software)
– transient studies and proposed mitigation measures
– electric and magnetic field calculations for transformers, busbars, cables and other high-voltage equipment
– insulation coordination and overvoltage protection studies
– lightning protection studies
– other electrical engineering studies specific to the project

The result of each analysis is precise, applicable documentation that enables confident engineering decisions and safe project execution.

ELECTRICAL PANEL ASSEMBLY

In 2019, EIB expanded its service portfolio to include the production/assembly of electrical panels, providing clients with added value through complete technical integration and quality control.
Production is most often carried out as part of a turnkey service, in which we design and manufacture control and protection systems, AC and DC panels, and DCS/SCADA systems.

Panels are assembled under the constant supervision of our most experienced secondary systems specialists, and verification and certification are carried out in accordance with current IEC protocols.
Our factory facilities allow full-scope FAT (Factory Acceptance Tests) to be performed in Zagreb, with the participation of both the design and parametrisation teams, ensuring full functionality and compliance before delivering equipment to site.

In-house panel production allows complete quality control, faster delivery times and seamless system integration on the project.

PARAMETERISATION & COMMISSIONING

After the design phase and production of low-voltage systems — including control, protection, AC, DC and DCS/SCADA panels — our parametrisation and commissioning experts take over.
Our team is certified for most Siemens and ABB devices, highly experienced with Schneider and Končar equipment, and able to work with other manufacturers as required.

According to project requirements, we prepare detailed protection coordination studies and technical notes with relay settings tailored to each installation.
Upon completion of installation, EIB can assemble the original project team to perform substation commissioning.

This ensures knowledge continuity and efficient execution of the final stage — from testing to energisation and handover.

EMBAR – THE POWER OF RENEWABLES

EMBAR is an independent division of the Electrical Engineering Bureau (EIB), established in 2024 as a dedicated business unit within EIB.
It specialises in the design and construction of advanced energy systems with a focus on renewable energy sources.

Its areas of expertise include consulting, planning and construction of solar power plants, EV charging stations, connection substations and battery energy storage systems (BESS).

With EMBAR, you gain a partner who understands the energy future — and knows how to turn it into reality.
