380/154 kV S/S at HPP Ilisu, Turkey

Client: Andritz Hydro GmbH, Vienna, Austria

HPP Ilisu is one of the largest energy projects in the region, with its 1200 MW installed power provided by 6 Francis turbine generators. Evacuation of this amount of power from a remote part of Turkey requires 16 bays at 380 kV level, including two autotransformers to 154 kV level, consisting of additional 10 bays. Both 380 kV and 154 kV switchyards are constructed with a double busbar system, and an additional transfer busbar. 380 kV busbars span across nearly 350 meters, with the entire switchyard occupying well over 500 meters in length. For this switchyard, as well as remote transformer take-off yard at powerhouse location was in full designed by EIB from 2011 to 2017. Unfortunate war activities in wider area have elongated the already complex and difficult project, which is luckily completed, with the entire switchyard erected and successfully tested.
